Each year, Gravesham Choral Society hosts its annual 'Instant' concert where we welcome approximately 200 singers from all over Kent and beyond to assist us in rehearsing and performing well known and loved music in one afternoon and evening. In March 2006 we sang Bach's "Magnificat" and Poulenc "Gloria". Other 'Instants' in recent years have included Fauré's "Requiem", John Rutter's "Gloria", Duruflé "Requiem", Verdi "Requiem", Rossini "Petite Messe Solennelle", Mendelssohn "Elijah", and Brahms "Requiem".
In 2004 and 2008 we were also treated to a singing workshop led by Mary King (from English National Opera) to further improve our vocal skills. Mary was featured on Channel 4 Television ("Operatunity") in a programme about hopeful opera singers.
The event is relaxed and informal, and is held in Gravesend
Methodist Church. The schedule
for the day in January 2011 will be: -
3.00 pm to 6.30 pm
6.30 pm - Supper
7.30 pm - Concert
(All refreshments are provided).
Dress throughout the day is informal. The concert will begin at 7.30pm, with
the audience seated in the upper galleries, and the choir filling the main body
of the church.
Cost for singers £12 (GCS Members £10) each for the day,
includes all refreshments and the hire of vocal scores - if booked. Audience
tickets are priced at £5 each.
This is an important feature of the Society's year, where our members enjoy meeting old
friends from other choirs, and welcoming new ones.
